This was a whirlwind week. Last week was final exam week and we had 34 presentations. I started this week with few makeup exams early in the week. From Tuesday on the focus was coaching sessions with our finalists:
I would like to give honorable mention also to: Aline (Educational Fun Center for Kids), Claire (Medical Supply/Maternity Kits), Herbert (Nanny Training and Placement) and Andrew (Concrete Construction Supply). I was very difficult to decide. We had many good presentations.
The rest of my waking hours were spent with meetings, recruiting and planning graduation. I had several meetings with journalists who want to cover our graduation event. We had a great media response this time!
New recruits rolling in – We ran some local ads and Facebook ads that have been getting a good response. We have had over 30 inquiries in the last couple of days.
The Business Presentation Competition this morning went very well. We had a great group of judges: two local business leaders (one a previous graduate), a representative of a fund and a government leader. The judges were just the right mixture of tough and enthusiastic. They said it was very hard to choose, but Alice took first place and David second. Two of the judges offered to invest in finalist’s businesses. One judge also said he would give the two finalists a $1000.00 grant if they made a go of it whether they accepted his investment or not. Now off to the hotel to prepare for Graduation.
The graduation ceremony was a big success! The place was packed out they had to bring out more chairs at least twice. I’m guessing 150 attended. Good energy throughout the evening. Claire (the COO of RDB) gave a great exhortation to the graduates. Several members of the media covered the event: web, print and radio. We gathered a lot of contact info – several of the people said they want to join the BDC.
And Leinster captain Leo Cullen will be in to talk about his role with the Students in Free Enterprise Initiative! Join us at 7!
